A pilot programme addressing development gaps identified through conversations with Black and People of Colour creatives.

The Partcipants

About INCUBATA

  • INCUBATA is a pilot running over 3 strands:

    1. 4 participants have been selected as part of a pilot programme. These participants are aged 18+ and from the creative industries. These creatives will be mentored, developed by industry professionals and receive a pot of funding each to help with their journey.

    2. For the broader community of people who we identified need support through other programmes we have delivered and conversations we have had, we will be running masterclasses, workshops, Q&As and more to give practical support for free. This will be with a plethora of industry figures with significant professional experience.

    3. We will also aim to provide individuals interested in the business, facilitation and leadership of the creative industries opportunities to have work placements with organisations and professionals to develop their skills and to build capacity amongst Black and People of Colour creative industry professionals.

  • The infrastructure to support creatives of colour in Scotland is not as competitive or on par with infrastructure in the rest of the U.K. or internationally, even though our creatives are showcasing, performing and working with UK and global audiences and industries. To support the creative industries and ecosystem for Black and POC creatives that are underserved in this industry, we seek to design a programme pilot to address the gaps we have identified through conversations with these artists and Black/POC creative industry professionals. We also aim to work in partnership with existing creative industry organisations on a local, business and government level as well as locally-based organisations that have expertise in the creative industries to deliver this pilot project

  • The 4 participants have been selected and we have started their development.

The Workshops, Q&As and masterclasses will begin on Thursday 1 September and run on a bi-monthly basis. These will be recorded and stored in the upcoming members' section of WAHS website. Keep an eye on announcements and our event page for full details.

  • Participants will receive guidance, tools and mentoring to take them to the next stage of their careers.

They will have bespoke programmes catered to their own development and will receive funding that will go towards this development.

The participants will have real experience within the industries catered for their chosen creative field.

  • We are building relationships with creative industry professionals and collaborating with professionals with who we have existing relationships.

  • Emphasis will be placed on learning and the supply of tools in order to further and evolve careers.

To create more opportunities, growth, and leadership for those creatives of colour entering the creative industries.

To further identify the gaps and improvements that creative industries need to address for Black and People of Colour.

To make this a means-tested programme and help roll it out on a wilder scale within Scotland.

To help diversify the creative industries within Scotland.

To work with organisations to address change and open up their work and opportunity streams.

To address things on a government level and to speak to those who are decision-makers to provide fairer and more equal access within the arts and this not to be dominated by white-led organisations, businesses and individuals.

To help showcase the incredible talent that Scotland has on offer.

To improve confidence and support for creatives of colour.
