Creative Balance Digital Showcase: Defining Our Space

How do we make our own spaces as creatives of colour? What does 'space' mean when retrieved from colonialist, imperialist Western contexts? Where can redefinitions of creative space lead us, and how do we rediscover our shared liberation when we get there?

In this Creative Balance showcase, writers Kadija Bouyzourn, Rianna Onzivu, and Harrinei Kumaravel tackle these complex questions through the lenses of femininity and orality, embodied living architecture, and unexpectedly shared histories.

These commissioned pieces explore the physical, psychological, and cultural dimensions of creative space for BPOC individuals, connecting personal reflection with creative expression.

This work forms part of Creative Balance, a mental health research project examining how BPOC-led creative spaces can function as protective factors for wellbeing within Scotland's creative sector.

A partnership between We Are Here Scotland and Scottish BPOC Writers Network.
